Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is delighted to welcome back Sri Lankan international, Seekkuge Prasanna.

The 32-year-old leg-spinner and hard-hitting batsman will join up with the squad at the beginning of July and will be available for the entire T20 Blast campaign with the Steelbacks – starting with Leicestershire at home on July 4th.

Seekkuge has represented his country in one Test match, 38 One-Day Internationals and 20 T20 international games to date – after making his mark in the Sri Lankan Army side back in 2006.

He toured England with Sri Lanka’s ‘A’ side in the summer of 2011 – and made  headlines with a devastating 6-23 burst (after taking the new ball) to sink the  England Lions at Worcester.  His victims that day included Alex Hales, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow!

On the strength of that performance he was selected for the full national side in an ODI series against Australia, and accounted for Shaun Marsh, former County  skipper Mike Hussey (first ball) and David Hussey on debut.

He returned to England with Sri Lanka ‘A’ in 2014 and was involved in the Tri- Nations one-day series against the Lions and New Zealand ‘A.’

In all T20 cricket Seekkuge has scored 1114 runs at an impressive strike-rate of  160.51 and has claimed 78 wickets with an economy rate of 6.87 runs per over.

He last represented Northamptonshire in the 2016 campaign, where he played in 10 matches and took 12 wickets at an average of 24.00 with best bowling figures of 3-24 and an economy rate of 7.02.

Northamptonshire’s head coach David Ripley said: “We’re delighted to have Seeku back for the 2018 season, it’s great to have a quality leg spin in your T20 team. He bowled great for us in 2016 and was great in the dressing room so he’ll be a great addition to our campaign.”
