Following his impressive contributions for Northamptonshire’s U18s in their successful ECB U18 50 Over County Cup campaign, recording figures of 3-37 in the final as the young Steelbacks beat Cricket Wales U18s by eight wickets, pace bowler George Weldon was awarded his first professional contract prior to the 2023 season.

The teenager, who penned a two-year rookie deal alongside fellow academy graduate George Gowler, also showcased his talent while playing for the second XI in 2022. The right-armer claiming three wickets at the expense of 48 runs in a 50 over friendly victory against a visiting Granada side. Experienced West Indies international Andre Fletcher, beaten by Weldon’s pace, was among his victims.
