Academy seamer Ethan Rice took five wickets as he finished with his best bowling figures for the 2XI, ending Day 1 with figures of 5/53.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Rice was the first bowler to make a breakthrough, striking in the 8th over by trapping opener Joseph Fielding LBW.

Rice then claimed his second wicket six overs later as Callum Nicholls flashed one straight to Max Hunt at point.

Joe Macgregor and Tribe led an impressive fightback for Glamorgan 2XI, posting a third wicket stand of 180, with Macgregor reaching an excellent century off 194 balls before Bailey Wightman forced a top edge which was safely caught to remove the opener.

Eight overs later, Wightman picked up his second wicket, trying to hit the seamer to the boundary but instead found Josh Cobb, who took a simple catch on the leg side.

Freddie Heldreich took the 2XI’s fifth wicket just before the new ball, removing Will Naish after a good diving catch at mid off from Nicco Reifer.

Tribe brought up his 150 shortly after the new ball was taken, reaching the milestone in 197 balls with 16 fours and one 6.

Ethan Rice squared up Hope-Bell to remove the right hander for 31 and to give the Academy bowler his third of the day.

Rice picked up his fourth and fifth wickets thanks to sharp reactions from Heldreich at second slip and a simple catch to Oldershaw behind the stumps.

Stumps were called followed the eighth wicket and Glamorgan 2XI found themselves 361/8 with Tribe still unbeaten, ending the day on 152.

Rice finished Day 1 with figures of 5-53 after 17.5 overs bowled, with Wightman getting two wickets and Heldreich taking the other.
