Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted to welcome Ravi Bopara to the Steelbacks.

The 38-year-old joins the Club from Sussex after leading their T20 outfit and top scoring for the side in the 2023 Blast, adding 408 runs at an average of 37 and a destructive strike rate of 146.

With nearly 10,000 runs and 300 wickets to his name in T20 cricket, Bopara brings the experience of more than 450 appearances to the Steelbacks side and is delighted to be on board.

“I’m really happy to have joined Northamptonshire for the T20’s this year.” Bopara said.

“I felt great in the Blast last year and my game is in a really good place at the moment, I’m looking forward to joining the Steelbacks and putting on a show for the fans at Wantage Road.”

A previous Blast winner, Bopara knows what it takes to achieve success in the T20 game and is hoping for the Steelbacks to emulate previous triumphs.

“We have a really exciting squad, there’s a lot of quality in that list and I’m hoping to play a big part in bringing a third Blast trophy to the club.

Despite a long and successful career so far, Bopara is still eager to develop his skills further.

“I’m still learning a great deal about this game at my age. I have a burning desire and hunger to up-skill my game to new heights and I still feel like a young man in the game.

“There’s so much more for me to achieve in the T20 space.”

Head Coach John Sadler was delighted to bolster the Steelbacks’ ranks and secure the signing of the former England international.

“Ravi is a phenomenal signing for us and we’re delighted to get it over the line.” Sadler said.

“He’s been an incredible performer across all formats for many years and brings a huge presence on and off the field.”

Bopara joins Northamptonshire on an initial one-year T20 only contract, the Steelbacks’ begin their 2024 Vitality Blast campaign at home on the 30th of May against Derbyshire.
