Luke Procter hit an unbeaten 39 but it was the rain that played the biggest role in the first 2 days for the second XI in Yorkshire.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, Hassan Azad and Sam Whiteman aimed to make use of the then warm weather.

The pair made a confident start, as Whiteman wasted no time in putting some runs on the board, hitting 6 fours in the opening 8 overs, including some elegant cover drives. Azad also joined Whiteman in the run scoring, hitting two fours into the leg side.

The pair were scoring at 5 an over but in the 9th Whiteman was dismissed for 30 by Dominic Leech, catching a top edge off a sharp bouncer, giving first slip a simple catch.

Luke Procter joined Azad at the crease at 39/1 and the pair began to find rhythm together before Azad edged off from the bowling of George Hill, leaving the 2XI 77/2.

Northamptonshire 2XI continued to lose wickets as Arush Buchake and Harry Gouldstone were dismissed in consecutive overs, causing the batting side to stumble from 77/2 to 81/4 by Lunch.

Gareth Berg joined Luke Procter as Northamptonshire came out for the afternoon session and the experienced pair began to rebuild. The pair added 58, guiding the side to 139/4 before Berg fell on a well-made 34 to another top edge.

With just 48 overs played, the umpires deemed the rain too strong for play to continue as Northamptonshire 2XI ended the day on 147/5 with Luke Procter (39) and Rishabh Upadhyay (6) at the crease.

Rain washed out the entirety of Day 2, heavy overnight and continual rain through the day preventing even an inspection by the umpires.
