Freddie Heldreich has signed a new two-year contract with Northamptonshire.
The young left-arm wrist spinner has made a bright start to his career after making his debut in 2021 and has been a consistent figure in the Steelbacks’ T20 side.
“I’m really pleased to have signed a new contract at Northamptonshire.” Heldreich said.
“The last 18 months or so in the squad have been great and I’m buzzing to kick on now. I feel like I’m settling into my role in the side and hopefully there’s a few more wickets to come for the Steelbacks.”
Heldreich finished the 2022 Vitality Blast campaign as the Steelbacks’ third highest wicket taker, claiming 14 wickets at an average of just 25.
Northamptonshire’s spin bowling coach Graeme White said Heldreich’s wicket taking ability made him a valuable asset to the club.
“He’s a strike bowler and that’s why he excels in T20 cricket because he’s so dangerous.” White said.
“It will be great to see his progression in the next year or two and hopefully he can develop into playing 50 over and red ball cricket for Northamptonshire too.”
White is the club’s all-time leading wicket taker in T20 cricket and has been working closely with Heldreich since he joined the club’s Talent Pathway.
“We’ve been working together for a few years already and we’ve built up a really good relationship.
“He loves bowling and I think he’s got a great attitude towards the game, he’s keen to keep working and improving so I’m really glad that that relationship will continue.”
