Northamptonshire 2XI were put onto the back foot after a strong batting performance from Nottinghamshire 2XI on Day 1 at Notts Sports Club.
17-year-old Academy batsman Aadi Sharma led Northamptonshire, believed to be the Club’s youngest Second XI Captain, but he came out on the wrong side of his first coin flip as Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat in good conditions.
Ethan Rice broke the opening partnership, striking in the 12th over as Tom Loten clipped one straight to George Hargrave at midwicket for 4.
Benjamin Martindale and Freddie McCann built up a strong second wicket partnership of 66, with Martindale bringing up his half century in the 17th over.
The opener added 19 to his score before he was brilliantly bowled by Alex Russell who got one to spin through the gate and knock back Martindale’s off stump.
Nottinghamshire headed into the second session on the day on 103/2, but a rain affected afternoon made it tricky for the Northamptonshire bowlers.
McCann and Dane Schadendorf put on a partnership of 161, with McCann reaching his century in the 60th over, coming from 143 balls and with seventeen boundaries.
McCann fell six overs later as he was sharply caught and bowled by Arav Shetty, who took a diving one-handed catch to remove Nottinghamshire’s number three. Shetty picked up his second wicket two overs later as Travis Holland sliced one to Prideaux who took a good catch in the deep.
Schadendorf built on his strong performance earlier in the afternoon as he brought up his century in the 78th over, with Nottinghamshire on 325/4.
Schadendorf and Fletcher put on a partnership of 96 runs before bad light put a halt to proceedings with Schadendorf unbeaten on 118 and Fletcher on 46.
Nottinghamshire frustrated the Northamptonshire bowlers, ending the day on 370/4 after 82.5 overs bowled.
