Northamptonshire 2XI fell to an innings and 83 run defeat against Warwickshire 2XI after a difficult four days at the Edgbaston Community Sports ground.

Northamptonshire started Day 4 76/4 in their second innings, having lost Gouldstone, Mehmi, Sales and Miller in the evening session of Day 3.

The 2XI headed into the final day trailing Warwickshire’s first innings of 512 by 199 runs.

After nightwatch Simon Kerrigan survived the end of the evening session on Day 3, Kerrigan and Upadhyay came to the crease for the final day.

The pair managed to add 31 runs to their partnership, bringing it to 54 before Upadhyay found short leg off the bowling of Che Simmons.

Kerrigan fell five balls later, edging one through to first slip and giving Simmons his second wicket of the innings.

The batting side added 116 to their overnight score in the end, with the innings finishing on 192 after a 31 run partnership between Alex Russell and George Gowler. Rishabh Upadhyay top scored for the 2XI with 34, hitting six 4s on his way but Northamptonshire finished with an innings and 83 run defeat in Birmingham.
