Northamptonshire 2XI couldn’t force a result on Day 4 as Yorkshire 2XI played out a draw in a rain affected four day game in Leeds.

Northamptonshire declared late on Day 3 on 424/8 after Luke Procter and Rishabh Upadhyay broke the club record 6th wicket partnership, scoring 213. Gareth Berg made a breakthrough before the end of play, meaning Yorkshire 2XI started the final day on their 36/1 in their first innings after rain limited play in the first three days.

Northamptonshire started the final day brightly as Noah Kelly chopped on for 20 off the bowling of George Weldon.

Yorkshire recovered well after the early wicket as George Hill and Will Luxton put on a partnership of 143 but Hill was dismissed early in the afternoon session for an impressive 138 off 168 deliveries when he found Hassan Azad at square leg.

Luxton was bowled for 38 three overs later off the bowling of George Weldon as he claimed his second wicket of the match, leaving Yorkshire 242-2.

Northamptonshire continued their strong afternoon session as Ramon Bailey found the outside edge of Yash Vagadia in the 83rd over, Harry Gouldstone taking a sharp chance low down to his right-hand side.

In a limited evening session, Yorkshire built a strong 6th wicket partnership of their own, as Dom Leech and Will Bennison put on 54 together to take Yorkshire over 300.

Hassan Azad was the one who managed to find a breakthrough as he removed Leech on 42 who was attempting to find the boundary. Luke Procter took a comfortable catch at long on as Yorkshire finished the final day on 339/7 to force a draw.

A big thank you to the ground staff at Weetwood Sports Ground for their hard work and preparation against conditions over the four days in Leeds.
