Luke Procter finished with figures of 4/26 as Northamptonshire beat Derbyshire by 72 runs at Chesterfield.

Northamptonshire came into Day 3 needing a further 5 wickets to complete their second win of the season and push themselves into the promotion spots leading into the Vitality Blast break. Their first came inside the first 5 overs as Lace chipped a Hutton delivery to Bavuma at midwicket. Derbyshire steadied before Procter had his third, Hosein trapped lbw by a ball that shot through off the Queen’s Park wicket.

Critchley began to find his feet before Coles ended his stay, nipping a ball back to take the top of leg, the ball taken by Rossington behind the stumps. Procter had figures of 4/11 at one stage when Palladino pushed at a ball outside off, edging to Rossington, off the bat this time.

Hudson-Prentice and Rampaul batting for a nervy 5 overs for Northamptonshire, both batsmen regularly finding and clearing the boundary to take the score towards 250. The return of Sanderson to the attack ending things however, Rampaul top edging an attempted pull to Bavuma in the deep. Northamptonshire winning by 72 runs and moving up to the third on the table, settling in to the third promotion spot before a four week break for red ball cricket.
