Northamptonshire 2XI were productive with the ball as they reduced Leicestershire 2XI to 123/6 on rain affected first day at Kibworth CC.

Due to heavy rainfall as seen in Northamptonshire’s County Championship fixture against Leicestershire , play got underway at 2:30 with the 2XI winning the toss and deciding to bowl first.

It proved to be the right choice as the 2XI started off very strongly with Michael Finan, with the left-armer removing Budinger for a 9-ball duck when the opener hit one straight to Rob Keogh at mid off.

Keogh is continuing his recovery from injury that has kept him out of Northamptonshire’s last two County Championship fixtures.

Finan struck again four overs later, this time removing Leicestershire’s other opener, as Evans attempted a drive and edged one through to George Hargrave behind the stumps.

Shortly before tea the 2XI picked up another wicket as Gus Miller squared up Swindells who edged it to Freddie Heldreich at slip and Leicestershire went into tea 42/3 after 27 overs.

Three overs into the evening session and Justin Broad picked up his first when he found one to nip back and bowl Tarling for 4. Bhula provided a bit of resistance for Leicestershire but he fell for 36 when he played at one outside of off and edged one through to give Finan his third wicket and Hargrave his second catch.

Minhas and and Walker provided a 43 run partnership late in the day but Walker fell to the last ball of the day, with Keogh beating Walker with the ball and Hargrave taking a sharp stumping to leave Leicestershire 123/6 at the end of Day 1.
