South African batter Matthew Breetzke will join Northamptonshire Steelbacks for the 2024 Vitality Blast.

The South African brings a combination of power and elegance to the Northamptonshire top order and is eager to get underway later this month.

“I am very excited to join the Steelbacks for the upcoming Vitality Blast and really grateful for the opportunity.” Said Breetzke

“I hope to contribute a lot on and off the field during my time at the club.” He added.

Breetzke had a taste of international cricket with South Africa in 2023 and Head Coach John Sadler believes that the experience he gained will be a big boost to the Steelbacks .

“Matt is a very capable batter who will bring power, experience and some real determination to the side.

“We identified what we wanted to achieve with our signings this year and he perfectly fits the profile of the type of player that we wanted to bring in as our second overseas.”

Breetzke has enjoyed some brilliant domestic seasons in South Africa, recently finishing as top scorer with 467 runs in the 2024 CSA T20 Challenge and Sadler is keen to see him carry that form into the Blast this summer.

“He has been excellent over the last couple of seasons domestically and we’ve been really impressed so we can’t wait to see what he can do this year.”

The Steelbacks have now confirmed both of their overseas for the Vitality Blast, with Sikandar Raza also joining in 2024.

Northamptonshire Steelbacks start their T20 campaign on 30th May against Derbyshire Falcons at Wantage Road.
