{"id":21928,"date":"2023-05-18T12:04:46","date_gmt":"2023-05-18T11:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nccc.co.uk\/?p=21928"},"modified":"2023-05-18T12:11:29","modified_gmt":"2023-05-18T11:11:29","slug":"willey-and-lynn-light-up-2xi-t20s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nccc.co.uk\/news\/willey-and-lynn-light-up-2xi-t20s\/","title":{"rendered":"Willey and Lynn Light Up 2XI T20s"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>David Willey and Chris Lynn were back in Northamptonshire colours yesterday as they took part in two 2XI T20s against a strong Warwickshire side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sides looked particularly mismatched in the first T20 at the Edgbaston Community Sports Ground, Warwickshire electing to bat as Northamptonshire looked to make a positive start with the ball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It didn\u2019t take long for Willey to make a breakthrough, as he dismissed Ireland international Paul Stirling with the fifth ball of the first over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Warwickshire quickly got into the flow of things, as first teamers Rob Yates and Alex Davies put on a partnership of 88 from 56 deliveries. Yates was dismissed for 39, trapped LBW by Bailey Wightman and Davies went on to hit 95 from 44 deliveries, before trialist Justin Broad removed the batsmen at the end of the 17<sup>th<\/sup> over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was an expensive end to the innings for Northamptonshire, as Sam Hain put on a quick fire 72 from 32 deliveries. David Willey came to the crease and swiftly got into his rhythm, smashing 79 off 48 deliveries, including 7 fours and 5 sixes. Wickets quickly fell around the England international however, as the experienced Warwickshire side proved too strong for a young Northamptonshire 2XI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Willey was eventually removed in the 18<sup>th<\/sup> over, as Northamptonshire stumbled to 154\/8 by the end of their innings, falling 78 runs short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northamptonshire 2XI batted first in the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> T20 of the day, with Chris Lynn and Willey opening the batting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Willey was unable to replicate his impressive innings in the first match, falling in the third over to Che Simmons, but Lynn was back to his usual self less than 24 hours after arriving in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chris Lynn is back and he still hits the ball unbelievably hard. \ud83d\udcaa<br><br>The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VitalityBlast?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@VitalityBlast<\/a> kicks off in just 7\ufe0f\u20e3 days! <br><br>\ud83c\udf9f\ufe0f\ud83d\udc49 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JyHBfIYVKr\">https:\/\/t.co\/JyHBfIYVKr<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/d0w2LHn3r7\">pic.twitter.com\/d0w2LHn3r7<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Northamptonshire CCC (@NorthantsCCC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NorthantsCCC\/status\/1658913756246683648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 17, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Australian hit 44 of just 17 deliveries, including five 4s and three 6s before Simmons had him caught on the boundary attempting a third successive maximum in the seventh over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the dismissal of Lynn, Broad was the only player to reach double figures, posting a strong 71 from 48.
