The Steelbacks captain in white ball cricket, Josh Cobb continued to show why he’s such a crucial player to the club in 2019. Cobb secured a place in the record books in 2016 after being named ‘Man of the Match’ in a domestic T20 final for the second time in his career.

The son of a Leicestershire stalwart, Russell Cobb, Josh crossed one of county cricket’s great divides – from Grace Road to Wantage Road – in 2015 and proceeded to make telling contributions in all formats for his new club. In addition to his destructive batting, Cobb showed he’s more than capable with the ball, finishing with the best economy rate of regular bowlers in the 2019 Vitality Blast.

Cobb has proved to be a vital player in the Steelbacks side since he joined Wantage Road. His explosive batting has seen him impress with match winning scores of 80 in the 2016 T20 Blast Final at Edgbaston and his maiden T20 century at home to the Birmingham Bears in 2018. Add to that being the Steelbacks leading run scorer in two of the last three seasons in the T20 Blast and it is safe to say Cobb has excelled in the shortest form.

Cobb is sharing the captaincy with Adam Rossington and will be in charge for both white ball competitions this season. His hard work and skill have earned him a new two-year deal keeping him with Northamptonshire until the end of the 2022 season.

With over 5000 First Class runs to his name and a high score of 148*, Cobb’s importance with the red ball is not to be forgotten.
