The son of a Leicestershire stalwart, Russell Cobb, Josh crossed one of county cricket’s great divides – from Grace Road to Wantage Road – in 2015 and proceeded to make telling contributions in all formats for his new club.
Cobb has proven to be a vital player for the Steelbacks since he joined Northamptonshire. His explosive batting has seen him impress with match winning scores of 80 in the 2016 T20 Blast Final at Edgbaston and a maiden T20 century at home to the Birmingham Bears in 2018. Add to that being the Steelbacks leading T20 run scorer in two of the three seasons before covid, it’s safe to say Cobb has excelled in the shortest form.
In addition to his destructive batting, Cobb showed he’s more than capable with the ball, finishing with the best economy rate of any regular bowler in the 2019 Vitality Blast.
As well as his clear white ball expertise, Cobb’s value in the red ball game is not to be forgotten – with over 5000 First Class runs to his name and a high score of 148*.
Cobb will continue to lead the Steelbacks as White Ball Captain in 2022.
