Saif Zaib took four wickets and Rob Keogh hit 89 as Northamptonshire 2XI fought back on the second day at The County Ground.
Zaib’s wickets restricted Loughborough UCCE to 365 all out, a 15-run deficit from the 2XI’s first innings, then Keogh’s second half century in the game guided the hosts to 235/3 at close of play and a 250-run lead.
The visitors started Day 2 128/0 after a blitz in the final 21 overs of the first day and they continued with that same intent. 46 runs were scored in six overs before Weston edged behind on 91 looking to pull Raphy Weatherall away.
Six overs later Dom Leech struck as Jani flashed at one that went straight to a diving Stuart van der Merwe at gully.
Rehaan Edavalath looked to push on after reaching a fine century but he was caught behind on 117 off the bowling of Luke Procter.
Northamptonshire’s Aadi Sharma, who was playing for Loughborough, took his side through to lunch at 276/3.
Sharma looked in good touch for 47 but wickets continued to fall as the visitors slumped from 300/4 to 365 all out.
Zaib finished with figures of 4/34 from 13 overs. Leech took two wickets and there was a wicket apiece for Weatherall, Louw, Keogh and Procter.
Miller and Keogh came out to bat and looked to navigate a tricky ten over session before tea but the pair looked assured at the crease, heading into the break 52/0.
Miller fell two overs into the evening session as he feathered through to the keeper for 32, which brought Justin Broad to the crease.
Keogh and Broad, as they have done in both 2XI games this season, built brilliantly and the pair put on 108-runs before Keogh was bowled by Goss after a well-made 89.
Broad, who is nearing a full return from injury, hit his fourth consecutive half century and finished unbeaten on 70 at the close of play.
