Club Legend Tony Kingston has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours and awarded a British Empire Medal.

‘Kingo’ was the Club’s first-team scorer between 1990 and 2022, missing only 66 overs of cricket before having to step back from consistently scoring in 2019.

Tony’s involvement with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club began in the late 1970s when he helped resurrect the County Colts side. Illness forced him to hang up the white coat in 1988 but at the behest of Bob Carter he began scoring for the Second XI and a couple of years later took on the first-team role.

A British Empire Medal is awarded to recognise the ongoing contribution of a very “hands-on” service to the community, with few more deserving of such an honour in Northamptonshire than ‘Kingo’.
