After victory against Kent at Canterbury last week, the Second XI made the shorter trip to Kibworth to take on Leicestershire in the Second XI Championship on Monday.

Captain Charlie Thurston won the toss and elected to bat in conditions more similar to early February than late April.

Northamptonshire reached 69-3 at lunch with Gouldstone, Miller and Curran all out caught behind the wicket with the latter being taken at third slip by Welch off a quick delivery that nipped away from former Sussex quick Abi Sakande.

After 54 overs rain prompted an early tea with Northamptonshire 160-6. Thurston remaining a constant at one end, Sales, Cronie and the impressive Buchake departed though as Northamptonshire had their backs against the wall.

After tea, Thurston, batting at number four, remained solid and kicked on with the aid of some lower order resistance from Jefferies and CJ White. Thurston and White were to add 96 for the eighth wicket before White was out to the last ball of the day.

The day belonged to Charlie Thurston however who walked in undefeated on 134 from 188 balls which included 15 fours and two exquisite sixes over third man.
