Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women put on another strong display with the ball to secure an excellent 79-run victory against Worcestershire Rapids Women at Wantage Road.
Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women won the toss and elected to bat first with Amelia Kemp and Bella Howarth opening the batting.
The pair got off to a strong start, putting on a first wicket partnership of 39 before Kemp was dismissed for 17.
As the end of the powerplay came around, the Steelbacks found themselves 45/1 with Howarth and Beth Ascott in the middle.
A positive start by the Steelbacks was disrupted as Worcestershire fought back with the ball which left the home side 98/5 and is need of a strong partnership to solidify the innings.
25 overs in and the Steelbacks Women were 114/5 with Ella Phillips and Gemma Marriott looking good at the crease.
In the 37th over Marriott reached her 50, hitting 6 boundaries and guiding the Steelbacks innings back in the right direction.
The final three wickets all fell in the 38th over, bringing the Steelbacks innings to an end and setting Worcestershire a total of 162 to win.
Steelbacks Women took to the field looking to defend the total, with Bethan Robinson taking the new ball.
It was Phillips who led the charge with the ball and got rid of the two openers by the 6th over, Robinson followed suit by picking up two wickets of her own.
By the time the powerplay came to an end, Worcestershire were 25/4 and the Steelbacks were in a commanding position.
At the halfway point, Worcestershire were 72/7 after a fantastic bowling display by the Steelbacks and in the 33rd over, Patel wrapped up the victory with Worcestershire all out for 82.
The Steelbacks sealed a convincing win by 79 runs and they will play the next fixture at Wantage Road on the 17th May, where they face Leicestershire Foxes in the Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup.
