Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women secured a thrilling 15-run win against Worcestershire Rapids Women to make it two wins from two in the Vitality Blast Women’s League 2.
The Steelbacks set Worcestershire Women a target of 135 to win but the final three overs saw the Steelbacks concede just five runs and take three wickets.
The Rapids won the toss at Visit Worcestershire New Road and put the Steelbacks into bat with the Captain Gemma Marriott and Mabel Reid opening up.
The pair got off to a flyer and put on 28 in 3.2 overs but the next ball Marriott was caught at cover by Gillgrass.
Reid fell two overs later bringing the returning Michaela Kirk and Amelia Kemp to the middle.
The pair steadied the ship and put on a 39-run partnership before Kemp was stumped.
Kirk top scored for the side with 27 but there were very valuable contributions from Presland (24) and Kemp (20) which guided the Steelbacks to 134/8 by the end of the 20 overs.
Looking to defend their total the Steelbacks made the perfect start with Bethan Robinson removing Davies in the second over.
It was tough work after that however as the Rapids looked to press on and by the end of the powerplay, they were 44/1.
A breakthrough came in the second over after the powerplay as Gillgrass was bowled by the leg-spin of Anisha Patel.
Boycott and Davis continued to score and made it tough for the Steelbacks, with the pair reaching a half cenutry stand.
15 overs in and the Rapids were 99/2, needing 36 to win.
The Steelbacks Women stayed resilient and showed their skill by conceding only 20 more runs and securing the win by 15 runs to stay unbeaten in the competition.
