Northamptonshire Steelbacks hopes of making the One Day Cup final were dismissed as Glamorgan came out on top at Sophia Gardens.
The Steelbacks were 148 all out in the 42nd over, chasing 210 for victory.
After last week’s dress rehearsal was rained off, conditions at Sophia Gardens were much better and the Steelbacks looked to make use of the overheads and green wicket by choosing to bowl first.
It wasn’t an ideal start for the visitors as Glamorgan navigated the powerplay without losing a wicket at 49/0.
The breakthrough came in the 15th over as Freeborn was bowled by Amelia Kemp.
Kemp looked in good form, striking in her next over as Parfitt was caught well by a diving Anisha Patel.
At the halfway stage, the game was evenly balanced with Glamorgan 109/3, with Lenny Sims taking the third wicket.
Glamorgan but on a 48-run partnership for the fourth wicket but it was Gemma Marriott who made the breakthrough, removing Ellis for 34.
The Steelbacks started to gain confidence and started to put the pressure on the Glamorgan batters. Wickets continued to fall and Glamorgan went from 148/4 to 209 all out.
Kemp was the standout for the Northamptonshire bowlers, returning figures of 4/34 from 9.4 overs.
In reply, the Steelbacks got off to a watchful start and found themselves 25/1 at the end of the 10 over powerplay.
Chloe Hill was dismissed two overs later and after their match-winning partnership against Yorkshire, Michaela Kirk and Beth Ascott knew that a similar task would be required.
However it wasn’t to be as Kirk was caught by Gammon in the 17th over, with the Glamorgan celebrations suggesting that they knew the importance of the wicket.
The Steelbacks stuttered after the loss of Kirk and went from 53/3 to 93/7.
Patel and Phillips put on a resilient 33-run partnership but the Steelbacks found themselves all out for 148, a defeat by 61 runs.
