Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women’s season came to an end after a 29-run defeat at Radlett versus Middlesex.
The Metro Bank One Day Cup Women’s League Two Semi-Final got off to a strong start for the Steelbacks as they restricted Middlesex to 169 despite 75 scored by Abbie Whybrow.
Amelia Kemp and Chloe Hill made a good start in reply to that total before a strong bowling effort from Saskia Horley at the end turned the game in the home side’s favour.
After an earlier delay for rain, Mabel Reid got the Steelbacks off to a great start as she’s bowled Artemis Downer in the first over.
A spell of three wickets in three overs just before another rain delay meant Middlesex were 63 for five after 17 overs.
When play got back underway David Ripley’s side continued to take wickets with Bethan Robinson, Gemma Marriott, Lenny Sims and Kemp all taking two wickets each.
Whybrow was able to stay at the crease though scoring a run-a-ball 75 including 11 fours and a six.
Chasing 170, Kemp and Hill combined for a 58-run partnership off the first 13 overs.
Hill was eventually dismissed for 46 with the Steelbacks still in a good position on 113 for four.
Middlesex then turned to Horley and she was able to take four wickets and wrestle the game back into the home side’s control as the Steelbacks were eventually bowled out for 135.
It wasn’t to be for the Steelbacks at Radlett on Sunday, but thank you to everyone for their commitment and support throughout the season.
