Northamptonshire resumed on their overnight score of 34-1, a lead of 147 runs with Gus Miller 10* and Ben Curran 15* in the middle.

Leicestershire made two changes to their side, with Ben Mike and Nick Welch called into the First XI squad for their LV= Insurance County Championship match. Academy Members Sam Wood and Buzz Kemp being called up as replacements.

Curran and Miller made steady progress and the only wicket to fall in the morning session was Curran for 33 LBW to Roman Walker. The morning session produced 103 runs from 31 overs – at lunch, 137-2 at with Gus Miller 56* and Charlie Thurston 37*.

Gus Miller went soon after lunch for 62 to a good catch by Tom Scriven off the bowling of Alex Evans – Northamptonshire 148-3 from 51.5 overs.

Charlie Thurston continued a productive fixture as he brought up his 50 (off 87 balls with five 4’s) and continued on with James Sales. Scott Steel was introduced into the attack and with his second ball he bowled Charlie Thurston for 63, Northamptonshire 199-4, Thurston with a match aggregate of 208 runs.

James’s Sales and Cronie then made good progress with a 50 partnership from 70 balls, with James Cronie showing some nice touches and good shots, including an effortless 6. Soon after there was a misunderstanding and James Sales was run out for 46, a good throw coming in from Roman Walker. Tea was taken with Northamptonshire on 258-5 from 82 overs.

Wickets fell after tea as Northamptonshire looked to up the rate, Buchake and Jefferies both falling to Bowley. James Cronie went to his 50 however, with the score on 272-7.

Leicestershire persisted with spinners because of the failing light. James Cronie was caught with a stunning catch at deep mid off, left handed and low down by Scott Steel and two balls later Brandon Glover was bowled by Freddie Fallows for no score with the score 287-9 – a lead of exactly 400 runs

At this point, Leicestershire asked for the new ball as a fast bowler marked his run up, the umpires took a light meter reading and then led the players off.
