Ben Sanderson continued to work back from injury as he built up some overs in the legs on Day 2 for Northamptonshire 2XI against Loughborough UCCE.

Sanderson bowled 14 overs across the Loughborough innings, bowling three maidens and taking one wicket.

After a plethora of runs on Day 1 , Loughborough UCCE started the day 82/0 after just 12 overs of play. This time, the fast start came from the 2XI as Lewis Reeder picked up the wicket of Meadows with just the second ball in the day.

Seven overs later Sanderson got amongst the wickets as he bowled Light for 32.

Weston and Aldred put on a 45-run partnership before Tiaan Louw bowled Weston for 56.

At lunch, Loughborough were still in a comfortable position on 226/3 after 39 overs but heading into the afternoon session, the 2XI made another quick breakthrough as Nirvan Ramesh removed Aldred in the 42 over on 77.

Runs continued to be scored throughout the day as Loughborough UCCE looked fairly comfortable, especially after Ndlela reached his century of 120 balls.

Ramesh was the one that eventually dismissed Ndlela, bowling him for a brilliant 107 and three overs later there was another breakthrough as Freddie Heldreich bowled Ramkumar for 47.

Krish Patel picked up the 2XI’s seventh wicket on the stroke of tea, dismissing Harper as Louw took the catch, leaving Loughborough UCCE 397/7 at the break.

Patel claimed another wicket after tea and Loughborough declared 418/8, 73 runs behind the 2XI’s first innings score.

Patel and Jack Bates opened up with 26 overs left in the day and the 2XI yet again got off to a good start before Patel fell in the 9th over. Bates was dismissed four overs later as he was bowled by Petrie, leaving Heldreich and Jordan Strydom the challenge to see the side to stumps.

The pair shared a 43-run partnership and the 2XI finished the day 90/2, leading by 163.
