Raphy Weatherall has committed his future to the Northamptonshire by signing a three-year contract extension.

The 19-year-old will remain at Northamptonshire until at least the end of the 2027 campaign.

“I’m really excited to be extending my stay at Northamptonshire for a few more years,” said Weatherall.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far, and look forward to progressing my game with the coaches and senior players.”

Despite making his professional debut this year, Weatherall has already found himself involved in some of Northamptonshire’s biggest games this season and has been trusted with the ball at crucial periods.

The youngster has made his debut and featured in all three formats this year and has played an important part of the Steelbacks T20 setup, taking 11 wickets in nine games.

Weatherall admits that his quick introduction into the side was unexpected but he’s excited to continue his learning.

“If someone had told me at the start of the year that I would have made my debut in all formats this season, I would’ve probably thought they would be lying – the opportunities I have been given have been fantastic and I’ve been happy with my contributions so far.” he said.

“Going forward, I want to keep pushing to be a mainstay in the side, and contributing as much as I can towards winning games for Northamptonshire. I’m going to keep working hard and have identified areas to work with Rory on this winter, which will hopefully get me stronger and faster.

Tall, capable of bowling express pace and at times leading the Northamptonshire front line, Weatherall has shown his cool on numerous occasions, particularly when he defended 11 runs from the final over having not bowled in the innings in a nail-biting six-run win over Worcestershire Rapids, an achievement which has been a highlight for him.

“I think the best experience for me has been the T20s, in particular the Worcestershire game and the Leicestershire game. Obviously I was thrilled to defend the last over against Worcestershire, but in general these experiences under pressure have provided me with great learnings for the future.

“Off the pitch, we’ve got a great group and everyone has made me feel very welcome – I feel very much a part of the plans as we move forward and try to win things for Northamptonshire.”

Head Coach John Sadler was thrilled to extend Weatherall’s contract and is excited by what’s to come from the seamer.

“We are absolutely delighted to get him signed and secured to the club moving forwards,” said Sadler.

“Raphy is a young cricketer with very high potential. He has a superb attitude and is a great character in and around the dressing room.

“He has already gained valuable experience in different formats this season and has performed really well. He has also shown very pleasing signs of maturity and has executed his skills well in some high-pressure situations.”
