Luke Procter struck an immense, unbeaten double century as Northamptonshire 2XI posted 479/5 on Day One against the South Asian Cricket Academy at Wantage Road.

Procter struck 30 fours and 1 six from during his innings, finishing the day unbeaten on 211.

On the first day of a three day friendly, captain Luke Procter won the toss and elected to bat first on one of the warmest days of the year.

It was a difficult start for the 2XI though as both Emilio Gay and Arush Buchake were dismissed in the opening over, leaving the side 3/2.

Procter and Rob Keogh were at the crease early on and their experience showed, weathering the early pressure and navigating their side to 133/2 at lunch, with the Skipper and Keogh both on 64.

Despite the hot weather, the lunch interval became just over an hour long after some rain around the ground.

The pair shared a stand of 172 before Rob Keogh fell for a very well-made 89 from just 85 deliveries. Keogh played a crucial role and was the more aggressive of the two, striking at nearly 105 and hitting 17 boundaries.

The runs continued to be piled on at Wantage Road as Procter spearheaded the scoring, building crucial partnership of 74 with Aadi Sharma (33) and K Patel (95).

As the 2XI headed into tea, Procter and Patel were in the middle with the side 299/4, Procter 134 and Patel 30.

Procter and Patel put on a 207 run partnership before the latter was unfortunately bowled on 95, undeserving after a classy middle order innings.

Coming in at 7, Aum Raykar navigated the final few overs of the day with Procter, as the former hit 18 from 17 balls to end the 94th over 479/5.

Day 2 starts at Wantage Road at 11am tomorrow, with free entry for all spectators and a limited livestream running on the Steelbacks TV YouTube channel.
