New to Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women in 2026 is Scottish international, Megan McColl.

McColl has been capped 48 times in the T20s and 11 times in ODIs with a half-century registered in both formats. She will join the squad for the team’s Vitality Blast Women’s League 2 campaign.

The 25-year-old is excited to join the Steelbacks squad ahead of the women’s second season as a Tier 2 club.

“Whilst I love playing for my country, being able to play Tier 2 cricket for Northamptonshire and be in the English system is a really exciting opportunity for me to continue to develop and compete at a high level of cricket and I’m looking forward to doing that here.

“I’m really excited for the upcoming season and can’t wait to get involved with the team as much as possible. Hopefully I can contribute to a successful season.”

With 13 international wickets, McColl will provide true quality with both bat and ball for David Ripley’s side.

The right-hander caught the eye significantly by striking a remarkable 217 not out off 102 deliveries in the Scottish Women Premier League for Watsonians/Dumfries Women last year. In that season, McColl averaged 40.3 with the bat and 9.3 with the ball, dominating domestic cricket as well as taking to the international stage and experiencing early success.

“Playing cricket for Scotland has allowed me to play in so many different competitions in different countries including Pakistan and Malaysia.

“Qualifying for Scotland Women’s first World Cup in 2024 is certainly the most memorable moment in my career so far and playing cricket in England has always been an ambition so 2026 is a really exciting year for me.”

Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women start their Vitality Blast campaign away at Worcestershire Women on Sunday 24th May.
