Over the next week, the Northamptonshire squad will head to South Africa for some warm weather training.

The squad will head out in two groups (3rd March & 10th March), with some members completing some extra training so that they are ready for match practice later in the tour.

The first batch of players will benefit from a couple of days of training with Western Province, who are currently coached by former Northamptonshire player and coach Rory Kleinveldt.

Around various training days, the whole squad will play two T20’s vs Warwickshire, an internal 50 over game and a two day game vs Gloucestershire before heading back on 21st March.

Head Coach Darren Lehmann was looking forward to getting some valuable time away with the squad.

“Getting a number of days outdoors is so important at this time in the year. We don’t want to put any more stress onto the groundstaff and we want to let them produce a world class facility at Wantage Road ready for the start of the season.

“When we’re away the bowlers get used to their feet hitting the ground again, the batters get to experience playing on different surfaces and we get to spend some nice time together as a team.”
