A strong Glamorgan side proved tough opposition for Northamptonshire 2XI as the home side struggled to contain the visiting batters.

The total was set at 394 for Northamptonshire to chase, but this proved a tall order and the 2XI ultimately fell 197 runs short.

Glamorgan opened their innings with their most prolific partnership, as Bevan and Horton quickly built up 120 for no loss. Zaib secured the breakthrough, bowling Horton for 50, but this didn’t slow Bevan down as he shared two more partners who helped him to 110 in 102 balls.

Russell took a simple catch from the bowling of Glover to dismiss Bevan which did halt their momentum momentarily. However, a half-century from Taylor and some impressive striking from Douthwaite, who ended unbeaten with 75 in only 28 balls, saw Glamorgan reach a lofty total of 394.

The Northamptonshire reply got off to a stuttering start after Gus Miller was caught for 7 and Cronie required time out of the middle due to injury. Cronie returned to form a productive 51 run partnership with Ben Curran before he was also caught for 26.

Curran batted well with a further four partners to drive towards 62 runs and attempt to chip away at the total, but ultimately was bowled by Taylor.

The lower order fell quickly with only Hood managing to secure some runs as he ended 36 not out.

Northamptonshire finished 197 all out.
