Northamptonshire will be looking to bounce back from defeat against Durham as Darren Lehmann’s side travel to Worcestershire on Tuesday.
With the top two in the table promoted to Division One, Northamptonshire now sit 15 points behind Kent, which means promotion still remains a possibility.
Even though last week’s fixture against Durham ended in disappointing fashion, there were still positives to take heading into the fixture at the New Road.
Match Information:
The toss is scheduled for 10am, with the play starting at 10:30am.
A live stream will be available to watch on YouTube on Worcestershire’s channel, and you can follow all of the action with live match updates on our social media channels.
Squad news:
Darren Lehmann has named a 13-man squad for the trip to New Road.
Harry Conway comes into the squad and occupies the second overseas spot after Nathan McSweeney returned home after an Australia A call up.
Conway will be part of the squad for the final three games of the season.
Northamptonshire squad to face Worcestershire:
Luke Procter (c), George Bartlett, Yuzi Chahal, Harry Conway, Liam Guthrie, Calvin Harrison, Louis Kimber, Lewis McManus (wk), Stuart van der Merwe, James Sales, Ben Sanderson, Ricardo Vasconcelos, Saif Zaib
We spoke to Harry Conway about signing for the next two years, re-joining the squad ahead of the final three games and what promotion would mean to the Club.
Last time we met:
It was a comprehensive victory for Northamptonshire when the two sides met earlier in the season in May.
Worcestershire had won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 306 in the first innings with Gareth Rodrick ending with 164 unbeaten as nobody else in the team scored more than 32.
In response, Ricardo Vasconcelos scored 115 from 226 balls which was backed up by a 192-run partnership between James Sales and Lewis McManus, as they both reached centuries with a final total of 597 for seven declared.
Seven wickets for Ben Sanderson meant he skittled the Worcestershire batting order and they were all out for 114 securing an innings victory for Lehmann’s side.
Opposition Preview:
Captain: Brett D’Oliveira
Head coach: Alan Richardson
2025 finish: 10th (in Division One, relegated)
2025 highest run-scorer: Jake Libby (1,060)
2025 highest wicket-taker: Tom Taylor (58)
Sitting fifth in the table and 40 points behind Kent any slim hope Worcestershire had of securing promotion back to the first division at the first attempt has probably faded.
Their chances were not helped by a defeat to Kent last time out as despite an unbeaten century from Brett D’Oliveira they fell 84 runs short of an incredible 380 chase.
Opening the batting for Worcestershire and their top run scorer is Dan Lategan who has 706 runs at an average of 35.30 and a 144 top score against Gloucestershire.
With the ball, Tom Taylor leads the way with 35 wickets in this year’s Division Two season.
