Northamptonshire travel to Lord’s for the first time since 2018 with promotion to Division One still on the line.

With only one game remaining in the 2026 season, Darren Lehmann’s side sit four points behind Kent, who host Gloucestershire.

Middlesex come into the game on the back of a draw against Gloucestershire as rain denied them the opportunity to take the final wicket, whilst Northamptonshire’s chase against Derbyshire was cut short in similar circumstances.

The last time Northamptonshire met Middlesex at The Home of Cricket saw Ben Sanderson and Luke Procter both pick up wickets in a game which ended up going in the host’s favour.

Match information:

The toss is scheduled to take place at 10am, with play to then commence at 10:30am.

A live stream will be available to watch on Middlesex’s YouTube channel, and you can follow all of the action with live match updates on our social media channels.

Squad news:

After missing the game last week, Yuzi Chahal is back and slots straight into the squad.

Northamptonshire squad to face Middlesex:

Luke Procter (c), George Bartlett, Yuzi Chahal, Harry Conway, Liam Guthrie, Calvin Harrison, Louis Kimber, Lewis McManus (wk), Gus Miller, Stuart van der Merwe, James Sales, Ben Sanderson, Ricardo Vasconcelos, Raphy Weatherall, Saif Zaib.

We spoke to Ben Sanderson to discuss playing at Lord’s, his injury-free season and the return of Yuzi Chahal.

Last time we met:

Middlesex won the toss and elected to bat when the two sides met earlier this season in April.

Sanderson was able to pick up a five-for as Middlesex achieved 341 with the bat, the highlight for them a 140-run partnership between Joe Cracknell and Zafar Gohar.

In response, James Sales scored a career best first-class total of 164 alongside 107 by Nathan McSweeney which took Northamptonshire to 409 and a first innings lead.

162 from 305 by Sam Robson and a 353 for three total by Middlesex in their second innings meant the game ultimately drifted to a draw.

It was a day to remember on Sunday for Middlesex as for the first time in 36 years the county won List A silverware, beating Leicestershire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup Final by 31 runs.

So far in September, Middlesex have won one, lost one and drawn one as they return for their first County Championship game at Lord’s since May.

Leus du Plooy has missed the last two County Championship games, the One Day Cup Final and will miss this match due to declaring himself available for South Africa selection.

The 31-year-old is Middlesex’s leading run scorer in this year’s competition with 831 runs whilst Ryan Higgins has taken the joint third most wickets overall in Division Two on 54.
