Northamptonshire’s First XI squad will travel to Potchefstroom in South Africa for a preseason training camp.
The tour is the club’s first since the trip to Singapore at the beginning of 2020 which was cut short by the start of the pandemic. Head Coach John Sadler was looking forward to heading away with the squad.
“We’ve got ten days out at the High Performance Centre in Potchefstroom which will be a fantastic training base.” Sadler said.
“It’s got everything we need in terms of world-class training facilities; gym, pool, quality wickets and a high standard of net bowlers which should be great.”
The tour presents the first opportunity for the complete squad to train together since the end of the 2021 season.
“First and foremost it’s a cricket tour so we’re going to sharpen skills and get ready for the new season, but it’s also a great way to reconnect with everybody.” Sadler said.
“Players have been out in Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, we’ve got new management team and some new faces around too so it’s about getting training together in one group.”
The tour also offers match practice for the squad, who will play both red and white ball friendly fixtures against South African first-class side North-West.
The tour to Potchefstroom is part of a continual rise in intensity building up to the season with Sadler confirming he was delighted by the work being put in.
“The lads have been superb since they came back in November. They did some really focused optional training pre Christmas zoning in on specific skills and they worked very hard.
“Since the turn of the year that’s continued and now there’s a shift from winter training to preseason training and getting match ready for April.”
Northamptonshire begin their LV= Insurance County Championship season at home to Gloucestershire on April 7th. Individual match tickets and Season Tickets for 2022 are now available to order online.
