Northamptonshire has completed the signing of the 20-year-old South African wicket keeper, Ricardo Vasconcelos.

Having made his T20 debut for Boland in September 2017, Vasconcelos has enjoyed an impressive start to his professional career.

A safe pair of hands behind the wicket, the 20 year old South African is also extremely effective with the bat, notching two centuries and three half-centuries in only 10 First Class matches.

Vasconcelos has also impressed in his 15 List A matches, too, securing 14 catches and two stumpings, while also batting with an average of 26.40.

Vasconcelos joins the rest of the Northamptonshire side in time for the start of the Specsavers County Championship which begins away at Lords on 13th April. He will also be looking to force his way into the Vitality T20 side that takes on Leicestershire on Wednesday 4th July 2018.

Ahead of his arrival, Ricardo said he is eager to join up with the squad, and hopes to aid the side as they hunt for success in the coming season.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to represent Northants, it is a massive opportunity that I hope to grab with both hands.”

“I am looking forward to work with and learn from some of the more experienced players so that I can accelerate my growth as a player as quickly as possible. I am also eager to try and contribute as much as I can to the teams success.”

Northamptonshire’s Head Coach, David Ripley, spoke of his delight at the signing on Friday; “He’s a young, hungry cricketer who’s able to provide wicket-keeper cover and push the guys for batting spots. It’s great to have him on board”.
