Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are thrilled to announce the signing of Australian batter Nathan McSweeney for the entirety of the 2026 season.

McSweeney made his test debut for Australia in 2024 and had his Test cap presented by Northamptonshire Head Coach Darren Lehmann, someone who McSweeney is looking forward to playing under.

“When the chance came up to sign with Northamptonshire, it was an easy decision.

“The club has a strong culture and some quality players, and working with Boof again made it even more appealing. I’m eager to get over there, settle in, and help the team win games.”

After domestic success with South Australia earlier this year, McSweeney became just the second captain to lift all three trophies (Sheffield Shield, Big Bash & One Day Cup) in Australian domestic cricket.

As well as experience on and off the field, McSweeney will provide class at the top order, having scored nearly 4,500 runs across all formats.

In the 6 Shield games he played in the 2024/25 season, the right-hander enjoyed a productive campaign, striking 478 runs at an average of 43.45. The season saw McSweeney strike his highest first-class score after an unbeaten 127 against New South Wales.

Head Coach Darren Lehmann was delighted to get someone of McSweeney’s class at Northamptonshire.

“Nathan McSweeney is a brilliant player who has so much talent and potential.

“He’s a classy individual who will hopefully provide us with some stability in that top order. We can’t wait for him to arrive and hit the ground running.”

The 26-year-old will be available for the whole season and across all formats.
