Former Northamptonshire captain Mushtaq Mohammad is one of the latest inductees into the PCB Hall of Fame – honouring the all-time greats of Pakistan cricket.
Mushtaq, now 81 and a regular attendee at our Former Players’ Day at Wantage Road, joins Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq and Saeed Anwar among the elite.
The PCB Hall of Fame was launched back in 2021 with one of Mushtaq’s brothers, Hanif Mohammad – who played once for Northamptonshire’s Second XI in 1965 – featuring as one of the initial six inductees.
“Being part of Pakistan cricket during its formative years was a privilege,” commented Mushtaq after learning of his own induction.
“Playing alongside cricketing gentlemen who upheld the spirit of the game made the journey unforgettable.”
Mushtaq’s Test career for Pakistan comprised 57 matches between 1959 (when he was just 15 years old!) and 1979, scoring 3,643 runs and claiming 79 wickets with his leg-spin.
His stint with Northamptonshire, from 1964 to 1977, saw him captain the County to a first major domestic trophy – the Gillette Cup in 1976 – and his contribution to NCCC is recognised both in our own Hall of Fame in the Spencer Pavilion and with the Mushtaq Mohammad Suite in the Lynn Wilson Indoor Centre.
Club President Gavin Warren said: “Congratulations ‘Mushie’ from everyone at Northamptonshire CCC on this hugely well-deserved honour from your country. We are proud of you.”
