Gus Miller looked in good touch on his return to action, striking 71 for the 2XI on Day 1 against Gloucestershire 2XI.
Miller hit 12 fours and top scored for the side before they were bowled out for 228.
Northamptonshire 2XI won toss and elected to bat first, with Miller and Arush Buchake opening up.
The side started quickly and brought up a fifty partnership in 68 balls, before Buchake was trapped LBW in the 11th over by Mullapudi.
The next 50 partnership came up even quicker, with Miller and Van der Merwe bringing up their half century stand in 48 deliveries. Van der Merwe and Jordan Strydom were dismissed quickly after however and at Lunch the 2XI were 133/3 with Miller on 62 and Krish Patel on 5.
Miller was removed six overs into the afternoon session for 71 and it prompted more wickets to fall, meaning by the time tea came around, the 2XI had only put on 95 more and were all out for 228.
In reply, Gloucestershire lost two wickets quickly thanks to Dom Leech and Tiaan Louw. The pair struck in the third and fourth over respectively, with Leech forcing an edge from Dent and Louw producing a caught and bowled to get rid of Middleton.
Boorman and Phillips brought some stability to the innings and put on a 62-run stand before Phillips was caught by Miller off the bowling of Croom.
Boorman continued to score runs however and brought up his century late in the day, with a straight drive in the 44th over.
Gloucestershire 2XI finished the day in a strong position on 193/3, trailing Northamptonshire 2XI’s first innings by 35 runs.
