Lewis McManus will lead the Steelbacks in the upcoming Metro Bank One Day Cup.

The keeper-batsman takes the Captain’s armband after proving a key player in Northamptonshire’s 2022 List A campaign.

“Lewis is at the heart of all our teams and naturally leads by example.” Northamptonshire Head Coach John Sadler said.

“He performed extremely well in this format last year and he’s ready to take on the added responsibility that captaincy brings.”

McManus laid out his focus for the competition and embracing his new role.

“Captaincy is a new thing for me but you obviously see a lot more while you’re keeping than maybe you do at extra cover or something like that, so I’ve always thought a lot about the game.” McManus said.

“I’m looking forward to leading the lads out there, I’ve enjoyed the responsibility I’ve had as Vice-Captain this year and this is that next step.”

“We’ve had a tough year in the Championship so far so it’s exciting to go into a different format with what is a very strong side.

“We’re seeing this very much as a competition we want to win, which has maybe not been the priority in previous years. There’s a lot of experience within the side and we’re confident we can have a strong competition.”

The Steelbacks’ Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign begins away against Gloucestershire on Friday before returning to Wantage Road for the Club’s Family Day fixture on Sunday.
