The Luton Steelbacks Academy, which was formed at the end of 2021, has played its first competitive fixtures over the last couple of weeks, kickstarting a summer of cricket for the newly formed academy.

David Ripley is heading up the revolutionary sixth form programme in Luton and Central Bedfordshire, which was the first academy of its kind in the area.

The collaboration provides year 11 students the opportunity to benefit from a standalone sixth form programme combining an extensive education offer and elite level cricket programme.

Having only welcomed students earlier this year, the programme has already elicited its first cohort of players to compete in fixtures throughout the summer.

The Luton Steelbacks academy faced a tough test in their first match as they fell to defeat by 95 runs against a strong Surrey side down in Essex.

This was followed up by a superb win against Berkshire development squad as Luton Steelbacks cruised to victory by 10 wickets. A top performance by Mehrab Khan, who posted superb numbers with 4-14 in 8 overs, led to Berkshire finishing 87 all out and Luton Steelbacks scoring 89 in 14 overs.

The summer campaign continues today with T20 matches being played at Dunstable cricket club.
