Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are pleased to announce that seamer Liam Guthrie has joined the Club on a three-year contract.
Guthrie, who holds a UK passport, will join the Club as a local player and won’t take up an overseas spot.
“I’m truly excited about the opportunity to play for Northamptonshire.” Guthrie said
“Competing in the UK has always been a goal of mine, and I’m eager to embark on this new chapter.”
The left arm fast bowler made his Sheffield Shield debut aged 20 for Western Australia and played 12 first-class games and 9 List A games before a switch to Queensland in 2022.
In 2023, Guthrie took career-best first-class bowling figures for Queensland against Victoria, finishing with figures of 6/60 at the MCG.
During his time at Queensland and Brisbane Heat, Guthrie worked with Head Coach Darren Lehmann and was excited at the prospect of linking up again.
“I’m looking forward to reconnecting with Darren Lehmann, whose influence on my cricket has been significant since our time working together in Queensland.”
Head Coach Darren Lehmann was full of praise for Guthrie and believes that he can play a big role for the Club.
“We’re really excited about Liam joining us as a local player for the next 3 years.” Lehmann said.
“He brings left arm swing, genuine pace and having worked with him at Brisbane Heat and Queensland, his attitude is excellent and he has real wicket taking abilities.
“He’ll fit right in with the group who I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with so far.”
Guthrie will link up with the Northamptonshire squad after they get back from pre-season tour in South Africa.
