Zeena Bilal hit a final ball boundary to ensure that Kent Women took the points in a low-scoring thriller against Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women.
With Kent 101/6 heading into the final ball, Bilal, who was facing her first ball, reverse swept it past a diving keeper and third.
That result means that Kent leapfrog the Steelbacks into third, while the latter slip down to fifth following Worcestershire’s win at New Road.
After winning the toss at The St Lawrence Ground, captain Gemma Marriott decided to have a bat first.
It was the far from ideal start as the Steelbacks slipped to 23/3 at the end of the powerplay. By the halfway mark, the Steelbacks continued to stutter, faltering to 43/6.
However, Lenny Sims and Chloe Hill provided some excellent and much needed resistance for the visitors, sharing a seventh-wicket stand of 53 from 52 deliveries.
That partnership pushed the Steelbacks passed the 100 mark as they finish 104/6 from their 20 overs. Sims top scored for the Steelbacks with a well-made 35.
Knowing a big effort with the ball was needed, the Steelbacks started brightly and restricted the hosts well. Liz Russell struck in the powerplay as Coco Streets chipped to Alicia Presland.
The game was finely poised at the halfway mark with Kent 46/2, but it always felt important that the hosts had wickets in hand.
Lenny Sims struck in the 13th over to remove the dangerous Amy Gordon but Barnfather and Castle helped Kent tick along.
Barnfather hit an enormous six in the 15th over, but with three overs later Kent were 87/5 and under serious pressure.
10 off the penultimate over meant that eight runs were required, with Liz Russell the one trusted with ball in hand.
The over started well for the Steelbacks with four singles and was then followed up by an excellent yorker which sent the off stump of Jeer flying.
With four needed off the last ball the new batter Gilal reverse swept to give the hosts the win in Canterbury.
The Steelbacks Women are next in action on Friday 3rd July as they travel to Hove to face Sussex Women in their penultimate Vitality Blast Women’s League 2 game.
