Northamptonshire County Cricket Club can confirm that Justin Broad will miss the rest of the season with a lower back injury.
Broad has been managing a lower back issue through the first half of the season which unfortunately has not resolved, therefore the decision has been made to remove him from cricket related activities indefinitely and focus on building him back to full fitness in the coming months.
The all-rounder has managed just nine first team games this season, in which he hasn’t been able to bowl.
The 26-year-old admitted that the news has been a blow.
“I’m extremely gutted to be out for the season. This has been an extremely frustrating season for me on a personal note and I’m really sad it’s come to an end,” Broad said.
“However, it’s been great to see the boys doing so well and I’ll be supporting them in the upcoming months as we push for a strong finish to the season.” He added.
Head Coach Darren Lehmann was saddened to lose Broad for the season.
“We’re all gutted for Broady,” Lehmann said.
“He’s an excellent player and a real leader in our group so to lose him for the season is a blow, but it’s important that we look after him and prevent any further injury.
“We’re looking forward to seeing him recover well and get fit ready for the start of next season.”
