Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women produced a clinical performance against Middlesex Women as they secured a 105-run victory on the road in the One Day Cup.
Chloe Hill played a huge role in the match on Sunday for the Steelbacks as she batted the majority of the innings and scored 93 with the side posting 298 for eight from 50 overs at Radlett.
Whilst Abbie Whybrow was able to steady the chase for Middlesex, it wasn’t enough as four wickets from Amelia Kemp and three from Lenny Sims earned the points for the Steelbacks.
Having been put into bat by the hosts, Kemp and Hill managed to put on 40 runs for the first wicket before Kemp fell for 22 from 28.
That remained a consistent theme throughout the whole innings with multiple players making a start but unable to put on more than 30 runs.
However, that was enough for the Steelbacks to be 251 for eight when Chloe Hill was dismissed by Anaya Patel for 93 from 125 balls, an innings which included 12 fours.
The timing of that dismissal allowed Anisha Patel to play a significant cameo with the bat as she scored 33 from only 21 balls to push the total very close to 300.
A chase of just under six an over was the aim for Middlesex and despite getting off to a quick start their top three, including Artemis Downer who scored 46, were all out with only 60 on the board.
Kemp then picked up two crucial wickets as she managed to get Finty Trussler and Riva Pindoria out lbw.
The hosts found themselves 124 for eight and looked out of the game until a 69-run partnership from Whybrow and Lauren Turner provided some optimism.
In the 35th over, Kemp dismissed Whybrow for 80 off only 51 balls as she chipped the ball down the ground and then Turner went next over as the Steelbacks won by 105 runs.
The victory moves Northamptonshire up to third in the table with two games remaining, the top four qualify for the semi-finals in September.
The Steelbacks are back in action on Sunday where they host Worcestershire Women at the cinch County Ground.
