Northamptonshire County Cricket Club was sad to learn of the death of Mrs Freda Brookes – widow of Dennis – at the age of 101.
She passed away last weekend – a couple of weeks after her late husband took his rightful place as one of the initial 12 inductees in the club’s new Hall of Fame.
The couple married in March 1940 and were together for 66 years until Dennis’s death in 2006 at the age of 90.
A great support to her husband through his long association with NCCC – as player, captain, coach, assistant-secretary and eventually President – she was with him when the Dennis Brookes Gates at the County Ground were officially named in 1997.
The club offers sincere condolences to the family.
