Academy prospect Adam Fox and Rob Keogh both struck half centuries on Day 1 for Northamptonshire 2XI.

Fox top scored with a counter-attacking 87 while Keogh struck 79 at the top of the order.

Loughborough UCCE won the toss and elected to bowl on a warm, sunny day at The County Ground and it looked like the right decision as Harry Petrie struck three balls into the innings, dismissing Miller for nought as he took a catch off his own bowling.

Justin Broad came to the crease at 3 and joined Rob Keogh, with the pair looking to build another partnership similar to their one last week against Warwickshire 2XI.

The pair looked fluent and played nicely as they batted through to the end of the opening session. Keogh (74) and Broad (45) put on a 136-run partnership to navigate the 2XI to 136/1 at Lunch.

15 runs were put on in the afternoon session before the partnership was broken as Broad miscued a pull shot to mid on for 55. In the following over, Keogh departed for a well-made 79 after Sakhu Ndlela forced an edge and Isaac Light took a sharp diving catch.

Wickets continued to fall early in the session as the 2XI went from 155/3 to 206/7, with Zaib, Kimber, van der Merwe and Buchake going in quick fashion.

With Academy keeper-batter Adam Fox and Dom Leech now at the crease, the 2XI needed to rebuild. The pair counter-attacked brilliantly, putting on a 51-run partnership from just 40 balls.

Leech was bowled for 14 Fin Ridley and Raphy Weatherall came out at 10 in the 53rd over. Fox continued to fight back against the Loughborough attack and he brought up his half century in 42 deliveries.

Weatherall ably supported Fox by adding 24 and at tea the 2XI were 316/8.

The pair put on a partnership worth 76 before Weatherall was caught on the drive in the slips. Scrimshaw was the last man out and he put on 47 with Fox before the 2XI were 380 all out. Fox top scored for the hosts with 87, consisting of 15 fours and 1 six.

With 21 overs left in the day, Loughborough UCCE took the game to the 2XI from the off. Matty Weston and Rehaan Edavalath scored at just over 6 an over for the rest of the day, guiding Loughborough to 128/0 at the close of the day, trailing by 252.
