Northamptonshire are without Ricardo Vasconcelos for the start of the tournament after the batsman suffered a fractured thumb in the LV= Insurance County Championship fixture against Kent.

“It doesn’t change things too much, obviously we’re all very disappointed for Vasco. Being the leading run scorer for us last year, the fact he’s not going to be fit to go from game one is a shame.” Steelbacks Captain Josh Cobb said.

“But we’ve got BC [Ben Curran] as a left-hander going in at the top who’s played some valuable knocks for us in the past. He gets an opportunity now so hopefully he takes it.”

The Steelbacks welcome a new face to the squad, with 20-year-old legspinner Alex Russell joining on a short-term rookie deal earlier this month.

“It’s great to have Al on board.” Cobb said.

“He bowled at us during the winter at Loughborough and bowled really nicely, so it’s great he’s got his opportunity. He brings something into the squad that we haven’t got in a right arm legspin option.”
