Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that T20 captain David Willey has signed a new three-year contract.
Northamptonshire’s all-time leading T20 wicket taker has put pen to paper on a new deal that will run until the end of 2029.
“As a Club we’ve come a long way over the past four years. Personally I’ve put a lot of hard work into this team and the environment and it’s definitely not been easy at times,” Willey said.
“I think everybody can see the progress that’s been made and I’m hungry to continue to build on this over the coming years.” He added.
With 5,009 runs and 378 wickets to date in all T20 cricket, Willey sits as one of the leading English all-rounders in the format and a crucial member of the white ball setup.
Tomorrow’s match against Essex will be his 134th T20 appearance for the Steelbacks, putting him ahead of the previous record-holder Alex Wakely (133).
Head Coach Darren Lehmann was full of praise for the T20 skipper.
“It’s great news that Dave has decided to stay as a Northamptonshire player as he’s a fantastic leader who always strives for excellence on and off the field,” Lehmann said.
“He’s a player that loves the Club and really is one of those players you want in your side. His work ethic is second to none and the way he puts into the Club and all the players has to be seen to be believed.
“His desire to get better and better is good to see and it shows what’s needed to be the best player you can be.
“I’ve loved working with him and I’m looking forward to the future with him at our club.”
