Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Ashton Agar will be returning to Northamptonshire in 2025.
Agar, who played six games for the Steelbacks, including the Vitality Blast quarter-final against Somerset, will be available for the entirety of the Blast group stage this summer.
“I’m very pleased to be back with the Steelbacks in 2025,” Agar said.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last year and it was a lot of fun playing in front of the Northamptonshire fans.”
During his stint last summer, Agar mainly impressed with the bat, achieving of a strike rate of just over 190 from his six innings.
The Australian played a key role during the busy final fixtures, striking a destructive 31 off 14 in the rain-affected game against Durham, as well as the winning runs in the Steelbacks historic win against Lancashire Lightning at Emirates Old Trafford.
Along with his efforts with bat and ball, Agar’s experience proved important for the squad, with the Steelbacks winning four of the final five group games that he featured in.
“We went on a good run last year so I’m excited to be heading back and hopefully we can do well and make a Finals Day.”
Chief Executive Ray Payne was pleased that Agar will be returning to The County Ground in 2025.
“Ashton is a brilliant individual who played a very important role in our good form at the backend of the T20 Blast last year.
“He is highly skilled, very experienced and has had success at the very highest level of the game.
“We’re all very excited to him again in a Steelbacks shirt in 2025.”
