Northamptonshire 2XI were forced to toil with the ball on the first day of their season opener against Surrey 2XI.

Surrey finished the Day 280/4, with wickets coming from Tiaan Louw, Krish Patel, Geer and Haddow.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Surrey 2XI got off to a blistering start, brining up the 100 partnership in 144 balls.

Thomas (55) and Blake (41) comfortable navigated the opening session of the day to leave their side 113/0 at Lunch.

In the fourth over of the afternoon session, Northamptonshire 2XI made a breakthrough as Thomas edged one to Gus Miller, who took a sharp low catch at slip. Two more wickets fell in the next ten overs as Pascall feathered one through to the keeper off the bowling of Louw and Albert was trapped in front by Haddow.

With some thunder and lightning about, tea was taken just before half 3 with the batting side 186/3.

Before the end of the day, Surrey would go on to only lose one more wicket as Farmer was LBW to Patel for 39.

More weather caused a disrupted final session but Blake passed his century and finished the day 105 not out, with Surrey 280/4.
