Northamptonshire Academy Director Kevin Innes has revealed the promising young cricketers who will form the Club’s Junior Pathway for 2021.

It’s always an exciting time when we are able to finalise and release our Junior Pathway squads for the following year and I wish them all well within the programme.

We’ve added four players to the Academy this year: Henry Warren, George Gowler, Charlie Hood and Ethan Rice. They’ve all impressed on and off the field and all look to have bright futures ahead.

2020 has been kind to two of our Academy graduates that have made their debuts for the Club’s First XI.  Emilio Gay played a full part in the Bob Willis Trophy, consistently opening the batting and recording his first half century which was a great start to his very exciting career.

Harry Gouldstone made his first-class debut against Gloucestershire, though unfortunately the game was abandoned on the opening morning. It’s a shame for Harry but I’m sure he is keen to experience more game time within that environment in the future.

Five new players have joined the EPP this year: Archie Houghton, George Taylor-Yeates, Shaynan Patel, Toby Cousins and Rohan Kundaje. The selection process was another tough one with so many players showing great talent throughout our system.

We are now ready for our winter programmes to begin with all our players in place to improve their game either in our pathway age groups, Emerging Players Programme (EPP) and our Academy. All of our young cricketers will be coached by our professional coaches and players. Northamptonshire is one of the leading counties when it comes to having their top coaches working with all programmes up and down the Pathway.

A personal highlight for me, it was incredible to go and watch three of our Academy players compete in the England Young Lions selection process last month. I’m pleased to say they all performed well and showed what they’re capable of. We’re hopeful they’ll be invited back to compete to go to Australia in April and wish Amrit Basra, James Cronie and Freddie Heldreich all the best If they get the call up.
